HAWAII'S KAMALEI ALEXANDER WINS THE NIXON WTA, TEAHUPOO, TAHITI
Proving that the focus of Nixon's WTA is a fun-spirited event open to all surfers from trials to finals, Kamalei's winning wave took place during the trials of the contest. Kamalei's winning wave further illustrated that the WTA can be awarded to anyone in the contest regardless if the advance in the heat or not. Kamalei's backside barrel was undoubtedly the heaviest wave of the event and the WTA award reflects that.
Kamalei joins previous WTA, Teahupoo, Tahiti winners Bobby Martinez (2009), Ryan Hipwood (2008) and Manoa Drollet (2007) and currently rides for Analog, Nixon, Electric and Channel Islands.
The Nixon WTA is a winner-takes-all event along three stops of the 2010 ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) World Tour. Challenges in this year's Nixon WTA include Highest Heat Score (Jeffreys Bay, South Africa), Heaviest Wave (Teahupoo, Tahiti), and Triple Crown Winner (Oahu, Hawaii). One winner in each category at each location will be awarded a Nixon watch valued at over $10,000 USD. This years watches feature custom engraved casebacks, a Swiss tide movement, and either an emerald (Jeffreys Bay), ruby (Teahupoo) or diamond (Oahu) at the hour indices making this years watches truly unique and one-of-a-kind.
